Adult Introduction Course – Winter 2027

Course: January 23 – April 1, 2027

Tution: $1,200 until November 1, 2027 (thereafter $1,300).

The participants will learn the Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach to teach beginning reading including phonemic awareness, phonics, and spelling.  The OG approach is a direct, explicit, structured, systematic, cumulative and multi-sensory method that includes supportive error correction and analysis to drive instruction. 

Participants will create lesson plans to implement with students during the supervised practicum. OGMN will provide an appropriate student to work with during the practicum. If you are able to arrange a student working at an appropriate level for the practicum, we will credit $50 to you following completion of the course.

The course is approximately 50 hours, inclusive of an 18 hour practicum. This is an intense, graduate-level course which requires 2 to 4 hours of homework each week. Participant interaction during class hours is mandatory. Graduate credits may be available through a partner university.

Participants are responsible for ordering their own course materials – a list of required materials will be provided upon registration.

This is an online course, so participants must have a strong internet connection at home as well as a laptop or desktop computer with a camera enabled.

Participants must attend all sessions.

This course and an additional 65 hours of OG instruction with a student(s) are required to enroll in the Intermediate course. Orton-Gillingham of Minnesota is accredited by IMSLEC and those who complete our three part series are eligible for certification (Introductory Course, Intermediate Course, Extended Practicum).
